PHYSIOLOGY OF MENSTRUATION
RATIONALE
The ovarian and menstrual (uterine) cycles constitute
what is called the female reproductive or sex cycle. The ovarian cycle refers
to the periodic changes that occur in the ovary every month during the female
reproductive life. The menstrual cycle is the cyclical shedding of uterine
endometrium due to a decline in estradiol and progesterone production caused
by a regressing corpus luteum.
