MENSTRUATION RELATED SYMPTOMS

 

RATIONALE

 

Dysmenorrhea means painful menstruation that incapacitates women from performing their work and frequently keeps them in bed. It is the most common gynecologic disorder, affecting about 30-75 percent of women.

 

GOAL

 

Understand the types, causes, and treatment of dysmenorrhea and know the causes and management of premenstrual syndrome (PMS)

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

 

By the end of this course, the student will be able to:

l        Define the problem of dysmenorrhea

l        Enumerate the different types of dysmenorrhea

l        Enumerate the possible etiologies of spasmodic dysmenorrhea, clinical presentation, and possible lines of treatment

l        State the possible etiology of congestive dysmenorrhea, clinical presentation, and possible lines of treatment

l        Know the clinical presentation and management of PMS

l        Take appropriate history from dysmenorrhea patients
