CANCER OF THE VULVA AND SWELLING OF THE VULVA

 

RATIONALE

 

Vulvar cancer is uncommon, representing about 4 percent of malignancies of the female genital tract. Vulvar cancer is one of the causes of vulvar swellings that should be differentiated from each other.

 

GOALS

 

l        Understand how to differentiate between the different types of vulvar swellings

l        Understand the vulvar dystrophies and vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN)

l        Understand the pathology, diagnosis, and treatment of vulvar cancer

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

 

By the end of this course, the student will be able to:

l        List and describe the vulvar dystrophies and VIN

l        Enumerate the different types of vulvar swellings

l        Describe the pathology of carcinoma of the vulva

l        List staging of vulvar cancer
