TOPIC 80
CANCER OF THE CERVIX
RATIONALE
Invasive cancer of the cervix has been considered a
preventable cancer because it has a long pre-invasive state, cervical cytology
screening programs are available, and the treatment of pre-invasive lesions is
effective. Accordingly, the incidence of invasive disease can be decreased if
cancer of the cervix is diagnosed earlier, leading to better survival rates.
