OVARIAN TUMORS
RATIONALE
Of all gynecologic cancers, ovarian malignancies
represent the greatest clinical challenge. Because they are asymptomatic until
they have metastasized, patients present with advanced disease in more than
two-thirds of cases. Ovarian cancer requires intensive, often complex
therapies. It has the highest fatality-to-case ratio of all gynecologic
malignancies. Thus, its different pathological types, methods of
diagnosisincluding early detectionand the various lines of treatment should
be well known and understood.
GOALS

Recognize the classification and the pathology
of benign and malignant ovarian tumors
